Things to do
EAT
Dine out at the iconic Marrawah Inn. They serve local beef and seafood as well as all the pub classics. Over the summer period they really appreciate booking in advance. They’re open every day and you can find their menu here.
About 15 minutes down the road at Arthur River you’ll find exceptional takeaways at the Arthur River Shop. The edge of the world lookout is a great spot to eat them.
Further afield, Smithton has a good coffee shop as well as the famous Tarkine Oysters. Grab a take away dozen to enjoy out the front of your beach house or dine in at their cafe. Find opening hours on their website here.
Stanley is a very cute seaside town just east of Smithton, Hursey’s seafood is must for lunch followed by a walk up the iconic ‘nut’ before settling into The Stanley Pub for a few well earned local beers and great pub fare.
Alternatively - both Beach houses have fully equipped kitchens if you prefer to cook at home. The general store has most of the basics if you need to top up on supplies. `
TOUR
To learn more about the local area we recommend a Tall Timbers Tours. There’s a range of tours to choose from each offering a deeper look into the special parts of this place. Check out their website for details and booking here
Further afield in Boat Habour (about an hour and half drive) we highly recommend doing a guided cultural tour titled Tunapri. Learn about the history, language and cultural practices of the traditional Palawa people of the North west Coast. Learn more about this unique experience here
EXPLORE
Our Beach Houses are on the doorstep of Australia’s largest temperate rainforest: Takayna/ Tarkine. If you have the time, it is well worth doing the Tarkine wilderness trail a drive that will take you the better part of a day, with lookouts and walks along the way. Highlights include he Trowatta Arches and the Sumac lookout. Both beach houses are equipped with a ‘Tarkine Trails’ book with info on all the walks in the area. For more, visit the website
The beautiful mountain you’ll see at the end of the bay out the windows of the beach houses is called Preminghana or Mt Cameron. This is a beautiful place to visit. You can walk the Greens beach to reach it (about 10 kms return) or via gravel road. They’s some great information signage on the Northen side of the mountain explaining the incredible cultural significance of the site.
Greens Beach less than 100m away is also a favourite amongst the locals for surfing however depending on the conditions Netley Bay or Lighthouse could offer be better options.
If wetting a line is your thing we recommend off the beach at Netley Bay or along Arthur River for fishing. There is access to a small private boat ramp on the property however this must be organised prior to your arrival.
Fantastic snorkeling and diving can be found right up and down the coast with our favourite spot being just north of West Point.
Located in the shack town of Arthur River you’ll find the river mouth at Gardiner Point which is famously dubbed the "Edge of the World." This is because the stretch of ocean west of this point is the longest uninterrupted expanse of sea on Earth, reaching all the way to Argentina.
Given the wild weather we can receive here if all else fails, stay in, read a book, play games and watch the weather pass by. Each beach house is equipped with a small library and plenty of cards and board games to keep you entertained.
